First Aid & CPR Intro
City Street with shops

NEW for Grades 2 and 3

Our partners at Durham EMS will be offering a 90-minute Intro to First Aid (non certification).  Students will learn about the important role our Paramedics play in our community, and how the students themselves can contribute to the safety of their families and friends by learning and practising simple First Aid techniques.  A tour of a working ambulance and an opportunity to see and learn about the equipment that paramedics use in their lifesaving work will be part of the program.  Classes are offered on Mondays and Thursdays from mid-April to the end of June.

NEW for Grades 5 and 6

Our partners at Durham EMS will be offering a 90-minute Intro to CPR (non certification).
Students will learn about the important role our Paramedics play in our community, and how the students themselves can contribute to the safety of their families and friends by learning and practicing simple CPR techniques.  They will learn that "It's not rocket science" to help someone in medical distress.  Using a gamefied approach, students will learn how to do CPR compressions properly, working in lifesaving relay teams to "keep their ambulances moving steadily towards the hospital".  They will also learn how to help someone who is choking, using choking simulators, including how to assist a choking infant. Finally, they will learn to be comfortable locating and using an AED, by practising on trainer devices.  This is especially important learning, since many of our grade fives and sixes will be starting to babysit siblings and neighbour children.  Classes are offered on Tuesdays in November and on Thursdays from January 9 till mid-April.
